About Charles Khoury

Charles Khoury is a Lebanese contemporary artist born in Beirut in 1966. A graduate of the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts, he is also certified in lithography and has been active on the art scene since 1989. Shaped by the experience and aftermath of the Lebanese war, Khoury’s work explores memory, conflict, humanity and coexistence. His paintings are known for their expressive figures, animals, bold outlines and vibrant colours, creating worlds that move between chaos, hope and harmony. Alongside painting, he also creates wooden animal sculptures in his distinctive colourful style. Khoury’s work has been exhibited widely across the Middle East, Europe, Africa and Asia, including Lebanon, France, Kuwait, Egypt, Dubai, Abu Dhabi, China and the United Kingdom. He received the Special Jury Award at the Sursock Museum’s Salon d’Automne in 2008 and currently teaches Fine Arts at Saint Joseph School, Antoura.
