Fatima Al Hajj

Lebanese, born 1953
Abstract Expressionism and Contemporary

Fatima Al Hajj is a Lebanese artist born in 1953 who graduated from the Institut des Beaux-Arts in Beirut, the Academy of Fine Arts in Leningrad, and the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs of Paris. She was awarded the Picasso Prize in Madrid in 1985 and has been teaching at the Institut des Beaux-Arts in Beirut since then. Her landscapes are inspired by the gardens and parks of cities she has visited, and her paintings often depict her own garden in front of her studio. She aims to invite viewers to seek their own inner garden, and her works merge movement, light, and shapes, sometimes verging on abstraction.
