About Farid Aouad
Farid Aouad was a Lebanese painter born in 1924 in Al Maydan. He studied at the Lebanese Academy of Fine Arts and then in Paris before settling there permanently in 1959. Aouad is known for his pastel paintings of lonely figures in bars, cafes, and on trains, as well as scenes from the streets of Beirut and Paris. His work is marked by a textured haze that obscures details and layers emotionality into the frame. Aouad’s paintings express his personal struggles with sickness and poverty and depict a sense of alienation in lively public spaces. He passed away in 1982.
