About Bibi Zogbé

Bibi Zoghbé was a Lebanese painter born in 1890 in Sahel Alma, Lebanon. She studied at the Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts in Beirut and the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris. Known for her bold use of colors, Zoghbé’s artwork explored themes of nature, femininity, and the Middle East. Her paintings often depicted flowers, landscapes, and portraits of women, evoking strong emotions in viewers. As a pioneering woman artist in Lebanon, she was among the first women to study art in the country and have her work exhibited in major galleries. Zoghbé was a founding member of the Beirut Group, a collective of Lebanese artists active in the 1960s and 1970s. Her work can be found in prestigious collections such as the Sursock Museum in Beirut, the Museum of Modern Art in New York, and the Tate Modern in London. She is widely regarded as one of the most significant Lebanese artists of the 20th century.
