About Sabhan Adam
Sabhan Adam is an artist who challenges traditional notions of beauty through his portraits of misshapen creatures dressed in glamorous clothing against plain backgrounds. He draws inspiration from his own psychology, creating figures that reflect his own experiences of sadness, misery, isolation, and not belonging. Born in Hassaka, Adam is a self-taught artist who has built his career both traditionally and independently, exhibiting with galleries while also marketing and self-funding his own work and publications. He has exhibited his work at prestigious institutions such as the Uffizi Gallery, the Institut du Monde Arabe in Paris, and the Venice Biennale, and his work is held in collections such as the British Museum, Jalanbo Collection, and Barjeel Art Foundation. Ultimately, Adam’s work reflects his experiences of pain, fear, and phobia, and his desire to create art that speaks to the struggles of society as a whole.
