Mazen Rifai is a Lebanese painter who creates small-scale abstract works that serve as landscapes of the Bekaa Valley. His paintings are characterized by thick brushstrokes and planes of color ranging from pastel to night blue, interrupted by a thin powdery white line marking the skyline. Despite their abstract quality, Rifai’s paintings maintain a connection to the natural world and the referent of the Bekaa Valley.
