Born on September 10, 1960, in Bnahran, Lebanon, Mohammad Hussein Hussein is a renowned visual artist specializing in painting and sculpture. Currently, he serves as a Professor and Head of the Department of Visual Arts at the Lebanese University, Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture, Branch III. With a rich academic background, he earned his PhD in Art and Art Sciences from the Lebanese University in 2022, following a Master’s degree in Visual Arts with a specialization in Murals in 2012. He also completed a PhD thesis in Art History at Lumière University Lyon 2 and a Diploma of Advanced Studies in Art History from Sorbonne, Paris I.
Hussein’s extensive teaching career spans several prestigious institutions. Since 2014, he has been a full-time professor at the Lebanese University. Previously, he was an instructor and head of the Decoration Department at the University of Skills in Ain Saadeh. His roles have included heading the atelier at the Institute of Fine Arts and teaching at the Haidar Professional Academy and Mar Elias Professional School. His teaching experience also extends to secondary and kindergarten levels.
As an active member of the art community, Hussein is affiliated with several organizations, including the Association of Lebanese Artists for Painting and Sculpture, the Association of Visual Artists in France (Maison des Artistes), the House of Art Association in Mina (Tripoli, Lebanon), the Cultural Dialogue Circle in Lebanon, and the Center for Research and Sustainable Development at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Architecture.
Hussein’s artistic skills are complemented by his proficiency in digital tools such as Corel Draw, Photoshop, Word, and Excel. His work has been officially recognized, with three pieces acquired by the Ministry of Culture. He has also contributed graphic designs and book covers for various authors, showcasing his versatility and talent.
His research interests include sculpture in Lebanon and the Arab world, the work of Egyptian sculptor Mahmoud Mokhtar, and the integration of styles in Lebanese art. He has supervised over 50 diploma theses at the Lebanese University and published numerous studies on topics ranging from the sanctification of icons to contemporary artistic phenomena.
