Born in Beirut in 1955, Suzy Karam discovered her passion for drawing and painting at an early age. While studying at the Protestant College, art quickly became the space where her talent naturally stood out, earning recognition from her teachers for her distinctive artistic vision and expressive approach to drawing.
She later pursued studies in Fine Arts and Plastic Arts at Académie Libanaise des Beaux-Arts (ALBA), where her work continued to attract attention for its individuality and sensitivity. During this period, she also explored painting on silk, creating handcrafted scarves and textile pieces that reflected her delicate sense of color and composition. Her artistic portfolio led to an acceptance at a university in Boston to continue her artistic studies.
Over the years, Suzy maintained an intimate and personal relationship with art, continuously sketching, painting, and experimenting with visual expression. She later returned more actively to painting through an atelier in Gemmayzeh, a creative space that was tragically destroyed during the 2020 Beirut Port Explosion, an event that deeply marked both the city and many of its artists.
Her work is driven by instinct, emotion, and spontaneity rather than academic convention. Through drawing and painting, Suzy Karam captures quiet reflections, personal memories, and moments of inner contemplation, creating works that feel both sincere and deeply human. Today, she continues to draw and paint from a place of authenticity, reconnecting with the artistic passion that has accompanied her throughout her life.
