About Taher Jaoui

Taher Jaoui is a self-taught artist based in Madrid, Spain. His labor-intensive paintings are an homage to abstract expressionism, incorporating layered forms, vibrant colors, and expressive gestures. Jaoui’s canvas becomes a workspace where he exercises his ways of expression, varying from simple forms and patterns to abstracted skulls and chalkboard-like scribble sections. He draws inspiration from African primitive art, graffiti, glitch art, COBRA movement, and post-war abstract expressionism. His works often feature abstract mathematics signs and formulas, connecting to his background in computer science and engineering. Despite their anarchic feel, Jaoui’s works demand careful planning and utilization of space and materials. His art has been exhibited in solo and group shows around the world and featured in several international art fairs.
