About Wajih Nahle

Wajih Nahlé, a Lebanese postwar and contemporary master painter, calligrapher, and sculptor, was born in Beirut on February 1, 1932, and passed away on February 21, 2017. He was a pioneer in his generation and created new and original forms of expression. Nahlé studied painting under the Lebanese painter Moustafa Farroukh and was particularly interested in the decorative aspect of calligraphy, which is reflected in his work. His artistic philosophy centered around meditation through the inner self, and he believed that artistic innovation and creation involved venturing into the unknown world of the artist’s inner emotions and subconscious. Nahlé’s work involves mixing colors spontaneously and nervously and using soft and gentle touches on the canvas to create noble feelings mixed with the freedom of relationship. For him, artistic creations are produced by the wealth of innovation charged with strong emotions, senses, and bliss from experiencing total integration.
